Living on Lucky Street

This is the story of a girl who bought a house and lived to tell the tale. And yes, it's really on Lucky Street.

Mom in the livingroom. The plastic sheeting is keeping the heat from going up the stairs while we're still working.

In the kitchen looking back through the living room toward the front door.

In the living room, looking toward the staircase. Now, the stairwell wall is the only wall downstairs that does not have drywall.

The beam in the living room will have nice decorative wood to cover up the edges of the multiple boards that have been glued and nailed together. I think I'll finish it in walnut to bring it back to the original look.

From the dining room into the rear hall with a tiny view of my soon-to-be bedroom/office.

My dining room.

Mom in the dining room next to the French doors, soon to be remounted. :) Hooray!

The floor has been patched where the old fireplace used to be, and we will be installing new wood floors throughout the downstairs later this year. For now, however, I will throw down cheap rugs and pretend that the plywood isn't there. It takes a lot of imagination to work on an old house, sometimes, but I can do it. ;)

Other than the area around the large picture windows and around the stairwell/entryway, the entire living room has been drywalled. There are lights in the ceiling, and the room is ready for mud and tape! Hooray!

Today, Chad was putting in the drywall on the final wall in the dining room. He'd saved it to last because it was the most difficult to work on. The plaster and lathe under the stairs had to be removed, the wall had to be shimmed out, and then drywall installed. He worked alone today until around 2 in the afternoon, and finished this wall before he left. It was extremely difficult, painstaking work.

In the dining room, a lot has been completed. The walls on all the other sides have been shimmed out, wiring and insulation installed, sheathing replaced, and drywall installed. The ceiling will be drywalled next week once the drywall jack is returned to us from the lumberyard. The hole in the floor where the chimney used to be has received a temporary patch. New flooring will have to be installed throughout the downstairs as the damage throughout is too much to repair.

Another view of my bedroom. This room will be finished out when I have my spring holiday from school in March. By the end of that holiday week, I intend to be moved into the house, whether the rest of it is completed or not.

The bathroom vanity is installed now, and looks great. I can't wait for Dad to build my shelving unit in the corner for towels. When I first move in, I'll use a shower curtain in the bathroom, but eventually we'll install a glass door. It's so nice to have plumbing that works finally. :)
