Living on Lucky Street

This is the story of a girl who bought a house and lived to tell the tale. And yes, it's really on Lucky Street.

A view of the entire project still in process.

The bushes in front of the house will be removed as well.

Around the next area of excavation, a tent is erected to protect the foundation from too much rainfall.

A beam will be placed here to support the floor above.

Looking along the wall below the kitchen.

All of this dirt is being removed to enlarge the basement.

The kitchen wall is still up on supports.

The whole project, wrapping around three sides of the house.

And more....

More building supplies.

Building supplies.

Much of the dirt in the basement has been removed, but much more will have to go so that supports can be added in the basement.

Phase 4 of the job is to replace the foundation and sill plates under this side of the living room wall up to the front of the house.

Another view into the basement from the living room.

The concrete stoop has been relocated to the new rear doorway.

By Friday evening, the foundation wall is built and the concrete setting up. The sill plate will be installed in a day or so.

Days 8 and 9 (Mon & Tues of Week 3) of Foundation Work

Another view of the dirt.

Dirt waits above Mom and Dad's garden for use. This is three truckloads of it, so far.

This shows the level of the dirt that's been removed so far. The topsoil's being dropped at least a foot, and more in places.

This is the old sill plate which was removed. So many termites! Yeesh!

He explains a little more about the gas lines.

The owner of the company digs too.

The gas lines were removed because they'd been running through the foundation, which is against state building codes. Those gas lines will have to be rerouted into the wall and then run into the basement.

Another view of the coal chute.

The old coal chute beneath the current kitchen window.

The construction company's truck.

And there it goes. Mom and Dad will use all of this topsoil in their garden, so the dirt will be driven out there and then dumped for future use.

Raised up to place in the dump truck.

A bucket full of my yard.

Regrading the yard.

The house looks bigger with all of those bushes removed.

The whole project.

Phase 3 foundation work.

The living room wall and sunroom will be Phase 4.

The old sill plate was removed and the joists are waiting for a new one to be inserted.
