Living on Lucky Street

This is the story of a girl who bought a house and lived to tell the tale. And yes, it's really on Lucky Street.

Foundation project complete! Woo hoo! Now for installing that backdoor and buttoning up the house for the winter.

View of the last remaining crawlspace in the basement.

View toward the area below the kitchen.

The corner that was once so bad is now comforting.

Mom looks at the work as a whole. The beam near her is held up now with posts, but they will be replaced with concrete pillers for extra support.

View of the corner that has been lifted 7 inches in order to make the corner level and safe at last.

New pressure treated joists are sistered onto the old termite-damaged ones to add support where none has been.

Another view beneath the kitchen.

Beneath the kitchen

New basement wall--everything you see has been built during this process.

Below these windows where the giant radiator used to stand, the floor fell out due to so much rot and termite damage. We plan to put a window seat in this location.

View into the basement from the kitchen. All new floor joists lie ready for flooring.

Another view of the front of the house now that the bushes have been removed.

We have our work cut out for us with the porch, but after that foundation work, everything else will be easy.

The rotten front steps have been removed, as have the front bushes from the yard. Now we're ready to replace the front porch and sow grass seed for winter.

The kitchen floor will be level when it is laid at last, and the floors upstairs are perfect.

Below the bay windows, the floor could not be made level. We will minimize the effect of this problem with siding replacement.

Nearly done.

The ground will be sloped away from the house to provide better drainage.

The bobcat is used to remove a large portion of the dirt.

Digging...

Digging out the basement on the side of the house beneath the living room wall. The entire foundation below this area will be built new.

After a delay caused by a problem with the gas line and by rainy weather, work continues once more on phase 4 of the project.
