Sunroom Floor

It was a gorgeous sunny day on Lucky Street today, and the church bells on Church Street chimed with a cheerful ring. Uncle John was here working on my front sunroom floor, putting down the concrete board, and by the end of the day the job was done. Once the mortar has set up overnight, we'll begin laying the marble tile in the morning.


Mom worked on cleaning up the yard and garage area today, and a lot of progress was made.

This Saturday, Chuck will come to install the fence posts for the backyard so that the dogs can finally be here at my house. I can't wait. Chuck will also pull up that prickly bush next to the garage so we don't keep getting caught on the thorns. Hooray! Dad painted white circles on the ground to mark where the fence posts need to be installed, and the building inspector will come tomorrow to approve the work.

Yesterday, Mom and I went to Home Depot and bought nine pieces of Wonderboard, and Dad and John put them on my front porch last night. John measured each piece to fit the space.

He used the circle saw to cut the pieces to size and to cut out the openings for the ductwork. He had to wear a mask to keep the concrete dust from choking him.


John and Mom survey the work progress. He put each piece down to check the fit like a jigsaw puzzle.

He took a short break once all the pieces were cut before lifting them all back up to set them in mortar.

First the mortar was mixed, and then he used a trowel to spread enough to go under each piece one-by-one. He lay them back down on top of the mortar, and then nailed the pieces down with roofing nails once he was all done.

The mortar is setting up overnight, and tomorrow we'll begin laying the marble tiles. I'm so very excited!

John also installed the electrical outlets in the walls throughout the room today. A few weeks ago, he painted the walls, painted the woodwork, and installed the ceiling fan. When the weather is consistently good enough, we'll remove the window sashes and paint them all white. The crown molding has had a first coat of white paint, and Mom and I will apply a second coat tomorrow. We'll also paint the baseboards and window trim so it can be installed next week. After that, we'll need to paint the French doors and install them as well. The details make so much difference, and I'm really looking forward to having this one room totally done.
