Living on Lucky Street

This is the story of a girl who bought a house and lived to tell the tale. And yes, it's really on Lucky Street.

In Residence!!!

Mom painted the sides of my kitchen cabinets black where they would be next to my black appliances. In the photo above, she's putting the primer on. I swear, it's now black. :) My fridge is awesome. Loving the water and ice in the door. Loving the granite tile counters too.

I'm also loving my breakfast bar and the five burner gas stove. I'm equally excited about my bar sink and the regular sink on the other cabinet, both with garbage disposals. Dad even managed to salvage the portion of the counter that was cut out for the bar sink and has made me a new cutting board. :)

The chandelier has now been hung in the dining room. This weekend, the dining room table, chairs, and china cabinet will be brought up. Hooray! I've missed having a table.

My bedroom is looking much more homey. There's still the woodwork and doors to finish out, but otherwise everything is done. Eventually, this will become my office, but not until the upstairs is livable. In the meantime, this room is great.

Freya likes the bedroom too. :) Luna will be coming to stay once the backyard is fenced. Tomorrow, if I have time, I'll take some photos of the grass in the yard which is in progress. It no longer looks like the mess below. The last four pictures were taken before the yard was cleaned up, tilled, and seeded. How nasty! All gone now, though.

Perspective is good.

This was my kitchen in August 2004 (20 months ago), just after Craig broke his ribs and couldn't do any more work on the house. We split up in January of 2005, and I've been on my own (with my parents) on this project ever since. No floor. No walls. Bad old sewer main drain. Massive termite damage. Bad foundation on this side of the house.

And below, this was my downstairs office/bedroom and first floor bathroom in September 2005 (7 months ago). All so bad, it had to be totally removed and rebuilt from the ground up. Here, the contractor is filling in the cistern where an old porch used to be.

It's come a long way, baby. Sometimes I forget just how much work has been done. It's good to look back and marvel once in a while. ;)

Big News!!!

Floor tile is down, grouted, and sealed. The island has the chopping block top attached and is ready for finishing. The dishwasher is installed in the center, and the sink is ready to be set in the end closest to the camera in the photo above.

Tile is down and grouted in the back office/bedroom. Paint has been completed since the time of this photo. Tomorrow, the TV satellite dish will be installed and the phone will be hooked up next week so I can get DSL. Hooray!

The granite tiles are installed on the surface of the kitchen cabinets, and Dad has started putting the cherry edging on the cabinet tops as well. The backsplash will be added this week and the grout installed. Then, the sink can be plumbed along with my garbage disposol.

What does all of this mean?

I'M MOVING NEXT WEEK!
FOR REAL!
AS OF EASTER, MY LIFE
WILL BE REBORN
IN MY NEW HOUSE!
HAPPY DANCE!!!!
